The Basilica is built with a central pillar and four side pillars each measuring 62 meters high. These four side pillar are named after San Pablo, Santa Inés, San Marcos and San Francisco. The cathedral’s main doors are made of bronze and were designed by Leopoldo del Río, who incorporated the city’s most important historical events into them such as its founding, its first church and the earthquakes and fires that affected the city up to 1926.

Climbing more than 140 stairs will take you to the top of the Corredor Polaco.  The Catedral Basílica was declared a national monument in 1984, but it now has an additional feature: the Polish Corridor (corredor polaco), measuring 102 meters high. The corridor was opened to the public in 2008 after being completely renovated.  From the top, there is a great panoramic view of the city and of some towns in the northern and western regions of Caldas. On clear days, the five glaciers that make up the Parque Nacional Natural de los Nevados can also be seen.  Keep in mind that climbing up the Corredor Polaco is a physically demanding activity.
